Carl Sagan – A thousand years of darkness
January 10, 2009 by andreaandrewmilne
I recall watching this episode when younger. Somehow, enraged monotheists venting their deranged anger on a feminist teacher who defended enquiry didn’t strike me as at all relevant to the modern world.
But that was before those petro-dollars had really started inflating the mediaeval ambitions of Islamists. Says Carl, it was as if a whole society had undergone a self-inflicted radical brain-surgery. And already Carl seems like a lost exemplar of a rational, humanist Enlightenment.
